My First Birthday

Worthwhile Wednesday

Kathy's First Birthday. Lenore Lake & Kathy Lake, Windsor, Ontario. Photograph in possession of Kathryn Lake Hogan, [ADDRESS FOR PRIVATE USE,] Windsor, Ontario. 2005.

I don't remember a thing about this birthday.  But, I do love this photo of me and my Grandma Lake. It was taken on the occassion of my first birthday when she and my Grandpa came to visit. It looks like I'm about to cry. My bottom lip is drooping. I'm looking over at my dad. My mom is behind the camera, taking the picture.
My grandparents lived two hours away from us, and I didn't see them that often. Like most one year olds, I wasn't too happy about this 'stranger' holding me on her lap.

Did you notice the cake on the table? Yep, that was my first introduction to the chocolate birthday cake tradition. A tradition that is still carried on in our family to this very day!

Great picture! And you are my younger and prettier cousin - and don't forget it! I'm so old my first birthday picture was a cave painting. Seriously.

Great picture! I love your party dress. I hope you didn't get cake all over it.

What a cutie pie and such a pretty little dress too! To this day, my favorite cake (anytime, day or night, spring, summer, winter or fall!) is chocolate cake with chocolate frosting. I prefer homemade too! My grandmother would usually bake one every Sunday and keep it in a metal blue cake saver until dinner was over and the dishes were done. Those were the days! Yummy...now I'm hungry....

Greetings Thomas, Amy and Taylorstales,
Thanks for stopping by and sharing my birthday memories with me.

Thomas - Don't worry I won't forget that I'm younger than you! ;-)

Amy - Funny thing is red is still my favourite colour.

Taylorstales - Come on over! I did make homemade chocolate cake with chocolate icing to celebrate. And it is yummy!
